I came across this blog post from Don Stoner's thatlinuxbox.com, where he participated in a study at the University of Florida "to compare how many calories are used and how much force is produced
when the feet make contact with the ground while barefoot compared to
wearing cushioned shoes."
It seems to verify what I have thought about the value of barefoot running, which is that it's a great way to work on your form and strengthen your legs and feet, a tool you can use to improve your overall running. And it's fun and feels good! Interesting reading!
Your clarity leaves me wanting to know more. Just so you know, i will immediately grab your feed to keep up to date with your online blog.
ReplyDeleteHi Darcy--thanks for your comment and interest!
DeleteI posted a few weeks ago (May 1, 2012 - http://www.run2joy.com/2012/05/going-barefoot-and-kenyans.html) about the Kenyans, how they grew up running barefoot, which is how they develop their perfect form. But they all wear shoes as elite athletes when they race. The point, IMHO, is not to be so rigid in your thinking about it. If you go to the column on the right under 'Labels' you can read all the posts on barefoot running. Thanks!
Yes, this was very interesting post. I see most of the chines and japnes running barefoot but never got a thought what could be the reason behind it. Thanks for the wonderful fact. will try it! How Many Calories Counter
ReplyDeleteLisa, Just remember to ease into the barefoot running. Everyone's different as to how quickly they can get into it, depending on their history.
